Biografie

Above & Beyond is the ‘Trance Trio’ from London, consisting of Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinnes. The formation of the group dates from 1999, when Jono and Paavo met at the University of Westminster. The two of them were pursuing a degree in Electronic Engineering, but quickly discovered it wasn’t Engineering they wanted an Electronic degree in. They founded their own record label Ajunabeats, so they could release their own music. They produced and wrote their own songs, and released tracks under different pseudonyms. Word of their music spread throughout the London club scene, and quickly came to the attention of DJs such as Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules and Paul van Dyk. Tony McGuinnes joined the group after his brother brought them to his attention; Tony was Marketing Director & Manager of the Warner Music Group at the time. Tony asked Jono and Paavo to help him complete a remix, and the trio existed from then on. They came up with their final name Above & Beyond from a poster Jono had hanging of a American motivational speaker with whom he shared exactly the same name. The poster said Above & Beyond, and the men decided to stick with it. Their debut album in 2006 ‘Tri-State’ was well received by the public, and the critics, and the popularity of the group grew immensely. Their songs with powerful vocals and lyrics touched the hearts of many EDM fans, and people truly related to the words written by the men themselves. The band's performance record is as impressive as their productions. They made their debut in 2002 performing in front of 8,000 clubbers in Tokyo alongside Ferry Corsten and Tiësto. Since then they’ve performed everywhere, from Amnesia Ibiza to Barra Beach in Rio de Janeiro, where they played to an estimated crowd of 1 million people. The group is also a part of history; in 2009 Sir Richard Branson unveiled to the world the very first commercial spaceship Virgin Galatic’s SpaceShipTwo. Virgin thought of only one band, and song, to be appropriate to perform at the launch and that was Above & Beyond’s Buzz. Yep, that’s freakin' awesome.
