Biografie

Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen got his artist name Laidback Luke from Snoop’s song Gin & Juice. When the young artists heard ‘laidback’ in the song, he quickly added his own nickname Luke to it. Born in Manila to a Dutch father and Filipino mother, the entire family moved to the Netherlands when he was just 4 years old. In his teens, while hanging out with a friend, he had his first experience with electronic music when his friend made him listen to it on his Amiga-computer, remember those? Probably not.. But the first domino stone that got his whole career in motion was when during a school party Dobre came and play. Dobre is part of the Dutch house duo The Good Men, maybe you remember them? You will when you here their 1993 international hit ‘Give it Up’. Dobre saw something in the young producer and promised to listen to his tracks, and also provided feedback. In 1995 Dobre offered Luke a record deal on his recordlabel Groove Alert. As a producer he broke through internationally in 1996 with his track ‘Act the Fool’ and as a DJ when he performed at the English club Checkpoint Charlie. Since then the DJ has travelled and seen the world. In 2001 he started his own forum on which he provides others musicians tips and gives feedback on their music. Through his forum, Luke has helped other artists produce their songs. DJs such as Afrojack, Avicii, Quintino, Sandro Silva and Steve Angello with who he released the super hit ‘Show me Love’ ft. Robin S and in 2009 he co-produced 'Leave the world behind' with Swedish House Mafia. In 2004 he founded his own record label named Mixmash Records and his focus is very much towards educating young talents and guide them to success. The support and guidance he of course has had as well, and he is proud to be able to return the favour. We say by all means, continue to pass on the music!!
